Hospital Tutoring

C.S. Mott Children's Hospital

Within the walls of C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, teams of individuals work together to change children's lives in extraordinary ways. For over 100 years this hospital has paved the way in providing comprehensive, specialized health care for children. Through OEC, tutors get the opportunity to work one on one with children and young adults in various hospital units to support them in achieving their academic goals.

Commitment: 2 hrs/week Monday-Saturday
8:00am-7:30pm (Specific times in application)
Pediatric Dialysis Unit

Dialysis is a process that corrects the balance of chemicals and fluids in the body and is extremely time consuming. Because of this, many dialysis patients miss hours of school weekly. OEC tutors work one-on-one with patients for personalized tutoring.

Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program

Eating Disorders patients live in the hospital for weeks to months for a comprehensive family based treatment in the hospital. However, they are unable to attend school during treatment. OEC tutors work in small groups or one-on-one with patients.

Pediatric Psychiatry

In the Pediatric Psychiatry unit, OEC tutors provide one-on-one assistance in a group classroom for in-patient students receiving psychiatric treatment. This requires 2+ years of commitment.

Book Babies

Book babies is a reading initiative specifically designed to support infants from birth through 12 months. OEC tutors spend time with the infants as well as their parents, reading aloud to the infant.

In-Patient & Infant In-Patient

For children of varying ages who are undergoing in-patient treatment, OEC tutors help them with catching up on school work. Infants under the age of 2 need help with tasks, such as sensory massage, fine/gross motor skill development, reading stories, and more.
